INWOOD - The line for a table at King's New York Pizza & Restaurant in the Inwood Plaza should be a little shorter this week as the family-owned Italian restaurant opens a new dining area as part of an ongoing expansion.
"We need the room. Business has been doing very well," said Dominick Colandrea, who owns the business with his two brothers and brother-in-law. "There is a wait on the weekends. Even though the economy is down a little bit, we do good."
Wanting to provide the best service possible and eliminate the wait for customers, the owners decided to expand the dining area. There are also plans for a banquet room in the near future.
"We do more than just pizza. We have a full Italian menu: veal, seafood, chicken," Colandrea said.
The restaurant will celebrate the expansion and open the new dining area on Monday. "We're very excited," Colandrea said. "It's very nice. People should stop and see what we have done."
Open since September 1999, King's Pizza features homemade Italian dishes.
"I started with my dad, Vincenzo, at his restaurant when I was 14," Colandrea said.
Vincenzo Colandrea is now retired and living in Italy, but his sons Dominick, Pasquale and Andrea and son-in-law Savatore Scotto keep the family restaurant operating.
King's New York Pizza & Restaurant at 785 Middleway Pike, Inwood, is open from 10:30am until 10:00pm. More information is available by calling 304-229-0800.
